Why Unit Conversion Matters

Temperature
Unlike length and weight, temperature conversion involves formulas:
- Celsius to Fahrenheit: F = (C x 9/5) + 32

Data Storage
- Bits vs bytes: 1 byte = 8 bits. Network speeds use bits (Mbps), file sizes use bytes (MB).
- Binary prefixes: 1 KiB = 1024 bytes. Windows uses binary but labels them MB/GB.
- Decimal prefixes: 1 KB = 1000 bytes. Storage manufacturers use decimal - hence a "1 TB" drive shows as ~931 GiB.

- Cooking - 1 cup = 240 mL
- Fuel economy - 35 MPG (US) = ~6.7 L/100km
- Speed - km/h to mph: divide by 1.609
- Area - Square meters to square feet: multiply by 10.764
